Hurricane Disaster:The Galveston Tragedy

 

Background

The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 was described as the worst calamity of the century. In the span of twenty-four hours, it is memorial Galveston Hurricaneestimated at least ten thousand persons were swept away by the wind and waves. The correct number of those who perished will probably never be known.

Students will view online newspapers and follow the permalinks embedded in each PowerPoint slide to learn about the Galveston Hurricane of 1900 and its impact on surrounding areas.

Students will also use The Hurricane and My Report to guide their exploration, among others. They will present their findings and engage in a class discussion to fully understand the event.
